September 28 Kidnapped two classrooms full of 5th and 6th gradersLast week, the LRA launched a surprise attack on a village across the border from northern Uganda and kidnapped two classrooms full of 5th and 6th graders. In the past six days, tens of thousands of people have fled their homes, fearing the rebels. Imagine the headlines an event like this would get if it happened here. 90 kids, stolen, hauled off into the forest to be used as soldiers. And yet somehow, the lives of these children go unnoticed and unmentioned by the rest of the world. By taking just a minute right now, you can help change that. Click here to tell President Bush that he should act immediately to help protect these children and secure lasting peace. The lives of these kids matter. They matter to you and they should matter to our leaders. This week, President Bush scheduled an emergency meeting with Uganda's president to discuss this crisis. It's significant that with everything going on in the world, he made it a priority to meet on this issue, but we know that he won't take the action needed to help these kids unless he hears from us. Palin should step down 'It's THE "RIGHT" THING TO DO!!Palin should step down, conservative commentator says 26 Sep 2008 Prominent conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, an early supporter of Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, said Friday recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party. The criticism in Parker's Friday column is the latest in a recent string of negative assessments toward the McCain-Palin candidacy from prominent conservatives. Palin to return donations from tainted politicians 26 Sep 2008 Gov. Sarah Palin swept into office as an avowed outsider, a claim that helped her land the GOP vice presidential nomination. The woman touted by Republican nominee John McCain as a reformer said late Thursday that she will donate to charity more than $1,000 in campaign contributions from two Alaska politicians implicated in a sprawling federal corruption probe. Palin is also giving back $1,000 from the wife of one of the men. The move came a few hours after The Associated Press reported that Palin had accepted the money during her successful 2006 run for governor. Congressional Leaders Announce Breakthrough in Bailout Bill NegotiationsBreaking: Congressional Leaders Announce Breakthrough in Bailout Bill Negotiations 28 Sep 2008 Congressional leaders and the Bush administration last night struck a historic accord to insert the government deeply into the nation's financial markets, agreeing to spend up to $700 billion to relieve Wall Street of troubled assets backed by faltering home mortgages. Negotiators emerged from a marathon session in the Capitol about 12:30 a.m. to announce that they had reached agreement on a proposal to give Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr. broad authority to organize one of the biggest government interventions in the private sector since the Great Depression.

STOP THIS MADNESS!!Last week Wall Street's risky schemes collapsed, threatening global meltdown -- the next 48 hours could be even more important, deciding America's financial fate for decades to come. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, a former investment banker, is strong-arming Congress for $700,000,000,000 of our money to bail out the financiers who created this mess.[1] That's $700 billion, roughly what the war in Iraq has cost; and without oversight, safeguards and help for ordinary struggling Americans, the consequences could be as dire.[2]
Congressional leaders are in a race against time, and wavering. Some, like Senator Chris Dodd, have started drafting better proposals -- making those who created this crisis on Wall Street bear more of the cost and share any benefits, creating safety nets for Main Street, and introducing regulation to stop a repeat of this catastrophe.[3] There’s no shortage of decent solutions, but with the markets yo-yoing and Paulson pushing for a deal in days, Congress looks all too likely to accept the bulk of what experts are now calling a "financial coup d’etat" -- unless the American people speak up loud, clear and fast.[4] Follow the link below now to send a message to your own representatives: SIGN HERE:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/wall_street_bailout Regardless of who becomes the next President, the rescue package we pass now will fundamentally change our national and personal finances, shaping our future for years to come. Will we fix this broken system now while we have the chance, or simply hand the financiers $2000 for every man, woman and child in the USA -- trusting them to clean up their own mess, socialising the costs and privatising the profits once again? Both Democrats and Republicans are poised on the edge of an unprecedented decision; at this moment, our voices could make all the difference. As Americans, we need urgently to stop our leaders from surrendering to events and inspire them to choose the right course. If we fail, we, our families, and people all around the world will suffer the consequences. So let's ask our representatives to stand up for the public good and chart a decent course out of this crisis today, using the tool at this link: PLEASE SIGN HERE: "ALSO"..PLEASE SCROLL DOWN AND SIGN THE PETITIONS STOP THE BAILOUT!! You've probably noticed that the current presidential campaign has become as wretched as any in our memory. Some campaign advertisements are so unfair, there is little precedent in our country's long history of dirty tricks and sleazy politics.
Don't just take our word for it. Josh Marshall, the highly respected editor of "Talking Points Memo," with readers from virtually every corner of the political spectrum, had this to say: "All politicians stretch the truth, massage it into the best fit with their message. But, let's face it, John McCain is running a campaign almost entirely based on straight up lies. Not just exaggerations or half truths but the sort of straight up, up-is-down mind-blowers we've become so accustomed to from the current occupants of the White House. And today McCain comes out with this rancid, race-baiting ad based on another lie. Willie Horton looks mild by comparison." Josh Marshall is not known for hyperbole... The McCain ad he's talking about states that Obama favors sex education for kindergärtners. Ridiculous lies. MORE HERE...MUCH MORE!

U.S. funds sent from Iraq to al-Qaeda - source [Right, our tax dollars go to either al-Qaeda or Bush's Wall Street CEOs - six of one, half-dozen of another.] 23 Sep 2008 A former Iraqi investigator said more then $US13 billion of the money allocated for reconstruction projects in Iraq was wasted or stolen, with some of it ending up in al-Qaeda’s coffers. Salam Adhoob, a former chief investigator for Iraq's Commission on Public Integrity, which U.S. officials call Iraq’s equivalent of the FBI, reported to the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. He said many of the projects funded by the U.S. 'were not needed, and many were never built' like an electricity project in Nineveh province that an oversight agency found 'existed only on paper', reports the Washington Post. Embezzlement schemes were widely used for arms procurement, according to Adhoob.
House clears huge defense bill, sends it to Senate 24 Sep 2008 Bowing to President [sic] Bush's demands, the House passed a mammoth package for the Pentagon on Wednesday that contains billions of dollars for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a pay raise for troops. The 392-39 vote sent the $612 billion defense authorization bill to the Senate, which was expected to clear it this week. A SPECIAL MESSAGE from AlterNet and why we post their newsLies, Damned Lies, and How Much Should Obama Lie? By Don Hazen, AlterNet. Posted September 23, 2008. A special message from AlterNet’s executive editor about AlterNet's approach to lies in the campaign. Lies are everywhere. It's a veritable lying epidemic out there in campaign America. Yet, it was still surprising when corporate writer Farhad Manjoo suggested that Barack Obama's problem in the campaign was that he wasn't lying enough. Perhaps it is quaint, but at AlterNet we are in favor of fewer lies, not more. And we won't lie. This article is in part an appeal to support us financially, to help us fight back against the recent plague of lies. Manjoo works for Slate, which is owned by the Washington Post Company, owner of Newsweek and a media empire that stretches from TV channels to children's schoolbooks. Manjoo catalogued many of the lies strewn about by John McCain and running mate Sarah Palin, and by Obama. Manjoo concluded that McCain was out-lying Obama by more than 2-1, and that Obama had refrained from the big whoppers. Hence, according to Manjoo, "McCain has lied more often and more outrageously than Obama." September 23 Shame On Big Oil! Is there anything they won't do? =PLEASE SIGN=Big Oil. Is there any limit to their greed? This summer, we learned that Exxon reported $11.7 billion in pure profit in only 90 days at the height of the oil price bubble - more than any U.S. corporation in history. With record-shattering profits like these, is it any wonder that most Americans are struggling with the price at the pump? Yet Big Oil wants us to believe that drilling in the last untouched piece of America - the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge - is the solution to all our problems. Give us a break! It's time for our elected leaders to say NO to Big Oil and say YES to real solutions that help consumers and protect our last open spaces. Visit ShameOnBigOil.org and sign the petition to declare independence from Big Oil! In the last seven years, 70 million acres have been offered in the Alaskan Arctic for oil and gas drilling, and an additional 40 million acres in the Rockies. What has it gotten us? A doubling in gas prices, while Big Oil bathes in record profits. What we really need are solutions that reduce our dependence on oil. It's time for our elected leaders to say no to Big Oil and say yes to real solutions that help consumers and protect our last open spaces. The Paulson Plan is a total outrage with no restrictions, no accountability, and no repair of the underlying problem of foreclosures on fraudulent mortgages. Each of Bush's previous bailouts was sold as a cure for the financial crisis, but each had little effect. The Paulson Plan achieves only one goal with certainty: stealing from the middle class to protect the rich. The current financial crisis is the direct result of 28 years of rightwing Republican deregulation, corruption, and greed, which became fatally toxic under Bush-Cheney and the Republican Congress. Congress must reject Paulson's Plunder and enact a plan with these progressive principles from the Backbone Campaign:
Email your Senators and Representative and spread the word: September 22 Wall Street Is Licking Its Chops while "we" hit the hock shop!!

John McCain is running a campaign almost entirely based on straight up lies!!Dear friends, You've probably noticed that the current presidential campaign has become as wretched as any in our memory. The McCain ad he's talking about states that Obama favors sex education for kindergartners. Ridiculous lies. Simultaneously, in the past two weeks AlterNet has had a huge numbers of visitors -- the most in AlterNet history! In one week more than half a million people have read our series of exposés on Sara Palin. These two facts -- high traffic on AlterNet, and the campaign's lies and distortions -- are related. Why? The corporate media is doing a horrible job by not blowing the whistle on the lies, and by reporting the distortions as news. In stark contrast AlterNet does blow the whistle. That is why a huge number of readers come to AlterNet to find the truth, and why Eyes Wide Open has chosen AlterNet as one of their main sources of information..."TRUTH". Thank you all for coming here and reading our posts. The World has had enough lie's and deseption. It's time for the TRUTH!! September 18 BUSH-Chance to Exploit Us More =Naomi Klein=
